Obituary

The late Willie Freeman Davis and Anna Ree Davis welcomed their son, Roosevelt, on December 27, 1950, in Fort Gaines, Georgia. His basic education was in the Clay County school system; however, his life education began when as a very young man. Tasked with the necessity of assisting his parents to support the household, he moved from childhood to manhood—and was given the nickname “MAN DAVIS.” Roosevelt worked tirelessly farming and gaining knowledge of the operations of various machinery which would serve him later in life.

In 1979, he made the decision to leave home and began a new chapter in Miami, Florida. Roosevelt’s knowledge of machinery was again enhanced as he furthered his skills and became a diesel mechanic. Roosevelt decided in 1983 to start his own business, and for many years, he worked tirelessly satisfying numerous customers. In 2008, due to the decline in customers, he began to work at Arrow Asphalt where he was employed until his transition.

Roosevelt was a phenomenal man of character with an incredible persona. He had integrity, worked hard, and was a loyal and respectful friend who was loved by all. Roosevelt had a passion for motorcycles, so much so that he was a member of a local motorcycle club for years. He thoroughly delighted in dancing to his oldie goldies and southern sounds. Many of his family and friends experienced the love, care, and concern that he showed unconditionally.

Roosevelt was not a perfect man but a humble man who focused on a personal relationship with God which was ever-present through his illness. In the midst of failing health, he never complained; he pressed through with prayers of supplications to God. He sought God’s forgiveness through prayer and conversation for his past mistakes and failures with his family and friends. His greatest desire was doing that which was pleasing in God’s eyes. Roosevelt earthly work was complete on August 29, 2024, at 4:23 PM as he transcended from time to eternity.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and three siblings, Willie Freemen, Jr., Alberta Davis, and Willie Ed Davis.

His legacy is celebrated by his children, Roosevelt Davis, Jr. (Cathy), Katina Davis, Kelvin Walker (Dionne), and Christopher Davis, all of Fort Gaines, Georgia; loving, devoted daughter, Kareen Davis (Raschard) and Carolyn Stokeling Williams (Devin) of Miami, Florida; three grandsons, Christian Davis, Travis F. Wiggins, and Devin Grey Williams, Jr.; seven granddaughters, Kennedi Walker, Kelsey Walker, Jasmine Walker, Markala Walker, Paison Walker, Marissa Davis, and Ryleigh Davis; one great-granddaughter, Nekea Lanae Starks (Nevaeh Lanae Pink); sisters, Ella Davis, Ethel Davis, and Nan Davis; brothers, Kendal Davis (Janel), Johnny Will Davis, and Charles Davis; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
