Obituary
Shabazz Keemo Abdul Harris was born on January 18th, 1973, on the island of St. Thomas, U.S.V.I., to Dawnmarie Harris Carr and Antonio Elroy Tirado. Soon after birth, Keemo migrated to The Bronx, New York, where he would spend his early days with his mother learning the basic lessons of life and how to navigate his youth attending P.S. 62. During these early years, he developed a passion for dancing while watching the likes of Michael Jackson and local street breakdancers. When it was time to come into his pre-teen years, Keemo would relocate to live with his father, affectionately nicknamed “Butch” to rear him into manhood. With his father, he would attend William H. Taft High School. Keemo loved to party, dance, and skate, and this would become evident in a nickname that was bestowed upon him, “Rollerblade King,” and his adaptation of the lifestyle “Rockstar Living.” He would literally rollerblade in the middle of the street, dancing in the middle of traffic all over the New York City streets.
Keemo would relocate to Hampton, Virginia, in 2004 where he would follow in his father’s footsteps of automotive industry work. For many years, he worked for Valero, a transmission manufacturing company where he prided himself on having the ability to be one of the best stand-up forklift drivers. He would relocate one final time to Miami, Florida, in 2019 to care for his ailing mother. Keemo was always about family, and he brought joy and laughter with his larger-than-life smile and his many sayings to include but not be limited to “Yooooo,” “That part,” “You already know,” “You lying,” and “Whaddup son.”
Keemo was preceded in death by his daughter, Latayjah Harris; grandparents, Dorothy and Issac Joseph, as well as Marcial Sr. and Eleanor Tirado; mother, Dawn; father, Antonio; and sister, Rasheeda Tirado.
Keemo leaves to cherish hiss memories: his daughter, Arashanay Elfe; and siblings, Elsaine (husband, Michael) Hadley, Louis Carr III, Ozzie (wife, Leah) Luzunaris, Pia (husband, Bernard Kearse), Rakim (wife, Mindy) Tirado, Kanya, Ibo, Kiam, and Rasheed Tirado, Tikesha Gonzalez, and Ebonee Rosado. Also to mourn are his aunts, Vera Peters, Stephanie Cameron, and Jacqueline Abraham; and uncles, Okeefe Harris, Alvern, Alrick, and Marcial Jr. Tirado; along with a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. His best friends, Tasha Hickson and Jason Gallop, are left to grieve alongside his family.
Keemo was indeed well known and loved, and we all say Farewell and Rest in Eternal Peace. You will always have a special place in our hearts and memories.
