Obituary
On October 12, 1950, in Coxen Hole, Roatan, Honduras, Joseph and Rosa Trusty welcomed their son, Sturdy Alfonso Trusty. He was the fifth of ten siblings: Harley Trusty, the late Samuel Trusty, Marcella Trusty, Marva Trusty, Harry Trusty, Aloma Pinet, Ema Trusty, Carla Trusty, Jannell Trusty, George Allen, Roberto Trusty, and Julio Robinson.
Sturdy received his early education at John Brooks Primary School in Coxen Hole. From a young age, he worked alongside his father in the boating industry, developing a strong work ethic that would shape his life.
After completing his education, Sturdy met the love of his life, Judy Elva Woods. The two married in 1975 and built a beautiful family together, welcoming three children: Shabie, Rowl (deceased), and Kadie.
In 1988, Sturdy made the courageous decision to move to Miami in pursuit of greater opportunities for his family. There, he embarked on a long and fulfilling career as a Longshoreman with the International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA) Local 1416. For twenty-three years, he worked diligently before retiring in 2018.
Following his retirement, Sturdy deepened his faith and dedicated his life to Christ, becoming a Deacon at the Universal Church of God in Miami. He served his church faithfully, finding great joy in prayer meetings and fellowship with his church family.
On February 27, 2025, Brother Sturdy was called home to be with the Lord. He leaves behind his devoted wife of fifty years, Judy Trusty, and his beloved children, Shabie McQuerrey and Kadie Brooks son-in-law Brian McQuerrey and Ricky Brooks His legacy lives on through his seven cherished grandchildren: Rowl Jr., Maya, Pilar, Kathryn, Katelyn, Morgan, Princess Kelly, Megan McQuerrey, Connor McQuerrey Roxany Brooks and Randie Brooks.
He is also survived by a loving extended family of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and devoted church members. Special gratitude is extended to Barbara Woods, Pastor Melisa Allen, and shanell Russell for their unwavering love and support.
Our hearts ache in sorrow, and the depth of this loss is immeasurable. But while we grieve, we take comfort in knowing that Brother Sturdy has found eternal peace.
Rest well, Brother Sturdy. We love you, but Jesus loves you best.
