Obituary
Sylvena Bridgewater was born on November 5, 1947, in Cayon St. Kitts to the late George Daveron and Irene Henry. She was affectionately nicknamed “Syl” by her loved ones. She attended the Cayon All-Age School. While in St. Kitts, she enjoyed ballroom dancing and was a lover of soccer where she supported every Cayon Team. One of her favorite hobbies was being a hairstylist in the community as everyone in the village would go to her for their relaxer and boast about her magnificent work. She was extremely helpful in the community. Her infectious smile and caring heart made people gravitate to her.
Sylvena left St. Kitts in the early 1970s to travel to St. Maarten and then to St. Thomas where she worked as a housekeeper. She later decided to move to Puerto Rico to pursue better opportunities for herself and her children. She resided there for 13 years and continued to work as a housekeeper. While in Puerto Rico, Sylvena married her long-time love, the late Mr. Vincent Bridgewater. Together, they decided to embark on a new life in the mainland United States. In 1985, they moved to Miami, Florida, where she continued her career as a housekeeper at Holiday Inn and later at Marriot Hotel – Biscayne where she retired in 2013. She was very adventurous and loved to travel as well as go on cruises. She visited many islands and had experienced a lot of diverse cultures. She loved engaging in political discussions.
Sylvena is survived by her four children, Joycelyn Daveron, Clover Daveron (son-in-law, Wilbert), Allesta Daveron, and George Daveron; stepchildren, Sharlene Bridgewater, Alton Bridgewater, Judith Bridgewater, Carolyn Bridgewater, and Michelle Bridgewater; siblings, Levi and Samuel Daveron; brother-in-law, Walden Bridgewater; grandchildren, Ayisha Daveron, Denell Daveron, Nickeisha Dickinson, Deneisha Dickinson, Jabari Daveron, Nikiesha Gonzalez, and Imani Fowler; cousin, Denise Blackman; aunt, Gina Blackman; uncle, Joseph Blackman; five great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends in the US, England, and St. Kitts, too numerous to mention. She will truly be missed by all.
