Obituary
On February 2, 1966, Essie B. White, and the late Clancie J. White welcomed their fourth child into the world. So began the life and legacy of Tangie Clarette White. From her earliest days, her radiant smile brightened every room, a gift she carried throughout her life. She was the sparkle in her father’s eyes.
Tangie grew up in the Liberty City area of Miami, Florida, where she attended elementary and middle schools. During her years of primary learning, Tangie was active in the drama club and was a part of the International Thespian society, where she met her lifelong friend, Ilma Galeote. She also sang in the chorus, which eventually led to a lifelong love for music and singing. Tangie graduated from North Miami Senior High School in 1984. From an early age, Tangie’s parents instilled in her a deep love of learning and a strong faith, values that guided her through every stage of life.
Tangie went on to attend the University of Miami, where she sang joyfully with the UM Gospel Choir alongside her sister, Angela. She graduated in 1988 with her Bachelor’s degree in Finance. Her pride in being a Hurricane never faded—she proudly wore her orange and green, remained active with the alumni association, and supported countless social and fundraising events.
Tangie began her professional career with Bank of America, where she gained invaluable experience and built connections that opened doors throughout her career. She later transitioned to Miami-Dade County, where, through dedication and perseverance, she rose to the position of Division Director of Housing and Community Development. Her 20-year tenure was marked by unwavering service, leadership, and a commitment to uplifting her community.
It was during this chapter of her life that she met and married Lorenzo Jackson, Jr., in 2006. Together, they built a beautiful life filled with love, laughter, and partnership. They traveled often, supported one another’s careers, and worked side by side at Lorenzo’s law firm, Jackson Law & Associates, until his passing in 2019.
Above all else, Tangie’s life was anchored in faith. She was a fervent Sabbath keeper and lifelong member of the Church of God and Saints of Christ. From a young age, she served faithfully in many roles—the first being a choir mistress, her most cherished role, given to her by the late Elder Judah Nathaniel Byrd. She also served as Assistant Sabbath School Superintendent, Chair of the Pastor’s Table Committee, and as “Martha” on the Daughters Quorum.
Tangie’s passion for music was always at the heart of her service. She directed the local choir, pioneered annual concerts, ensured the choir’s participation at Black History programs, and uplifted countless souls through her gift of song. For over two decades, she faithfully led the Sunshine Acapella Choir of Tenth Tabernacle Beth El, bringing inspiration not only to her congregation but to the wider community. Nursing home residents, youth at back-to-school drives, and families in need during holiday outreaches were all touched by her generosity and her music ministry.
In 2002, her service and dedication were further recognized when she was appointed by the late Rabbi Jehu A. Crowdy, Jr., Grand Father Abraham, to the Board of General Tabernacle Trustees—the governing body overseeing tabernacle finances and management. She served faithfully in every capacity until her final days.
Outside of her professional and church commitments, Tangie was equally devoted to her community and loved ones, most times putting the needs of others before her own. She served on her condominium association board, helping maintain a safe and supportive neighborhood. A lover of the arts, she frequently attended concerts, plays, and operas—and she delighted in introducing her nieces to the theater at a young age.
If you knew Tangie, you knew that Sundays meant a few things: shopping, self-care, and more often than not, brunch. She had impeccable taste, a keen eye for style, and an unmatched joy for treating herself and those she loved. She especially cherished treating her sisters to annual birthday outings. As the “family manager”, she was the glue that held her family together—organizing gatherings, sharing important news and updates, and ensuring her parents were lovingly cared for in their golden years.
Above all, Tangie cherished time with family and friends, always making room for laughter, togetherness, and memories that will last forever. She always wanted to leave the ones she loved better than she found them, and would use her time, talent, and treasure to assist in any way she could. Whether it was getting someone a car so they could travel to and from school or offering legal counsel, she lived by the words, “If I can help somebody as I travel along, then my living shall not be in vain”.
On Saturday evening, August 9, 2025, at 10:30 p.m., surrounded by loved ones, the LORD called St. Tangie to her eternal rest, greeting her with the words: “Well done, thou good and faithful servant; enter now into the joy of the LORD.”
She was preceded in death by her father, St. Clancie J. White, and her husband, Brother Lorenzo Jackson, Jr. She leaves to cherish her legacy her mother, Saint Essie White; siblings, Elder Angela Toombs, Deacon Arthur White (Natalie), Saint Juanita, Donald (Fannie), and Sharon White; bonus children, Lorenzo Jackson III (Ariel) and Avery Jackson; bonus grandchildren, Logan Jackson and Arianna Jackson; six nieces and nephews; four great-nieces and nephews; sister-friends, Mrs. Parrinder Terry, Sister Elder Karen Ward, Ms. Francine Johnson, and Saint Tonya Nelson; and a host of cousins, friends, and her beloved church family, who will forever hold her memory in their hearts.
