Obituary

With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Ulric Lawrence Thompson, loving husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, brother, uncle, great-uncle, cousin, and friend to all whose lives he touched.

Ulric was born on August 8, 1945, at 1st Caledonia Road, Laventille, Trinidad, West Indies, to Ena Stephens and Wilbert Thompson. He received his primary education from Newtown Boys’ R.C. School. He did not take his school-leaving exams, but he instead went on to learn the trade of welding from a friend of his mother. This was the profession he held at Public Transport Service Corporation, the bus company of Trinidad and Tobago.

He later went on to marry Tsahai at the tender age of 24 on July 11, 1971. He was a person that always kept busy; he enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, and he was a keeper of birds and dogs. His enjoyment was Carnival—give him his panorama and J’ouvert and after that, he was good.

Ulric later decided to try something different by migrating to the United States in January of 1991 where he held down many different laboring jobs. He was very hard-working and believed in savings. He was a man of little words, but you always knew what he meant. He never liked driving, so he always had a bicycle. Whenever there was a lake, he was fishing.

Ulric was the husband of Tsahai Robinson Thompson; father of Sherami Thompson Simmons and Tricia Thompson; grandfather of Brendon Simmons and Jahai Thompson; father-in-law of Brent Simmons; brother of Michael, Albert, Victor, David, Carlotta, Marlon, Carl, and the late Tony; brother-in-law of Teckle, Cynthia, Antoinette, Melvin, Veronica, Sharon and the late Sheila, Stephen, St. Clair, and Marie; nephew of the late Angela and Doreen; cousin of Carol, Lincoln, Sharon, and the late Helmut; uncle of Raymond, Marsha, Safiya, Ayo, Michael, Antonio, Melissa, Kevin, Danielle, Tasha, Melinda, Rahmel, Shari, Rasheeda, Anton, Teniece, Monique, Kayla, Timothy, Max, Sheldon, Aaron, Jackie, Ronell, Stanley, Tekela, Rhonika, Kayode, Fayola, and the late Tekron; and great-uncle of Dakari, Malcolm, Nathaniel, Antonasia (Mimi), Cooper, Dionshay, Janiya, Jackson, Zoe, Lauren, Rayah, Ramere, Rayla, Asia, Noah, Jace, Cymphoni, Ciara, Tegan, Imani, Azrael, Israel, Kiara, Sydney, and Ryder.
