Obituary
A Time to be Born:
Valencia Marcella Caldwell, affectionately known to family and friends by Lynn or Val, was born on March 11, 1964, in Miami, Florida, to the late Mary Woodson.
Valencia grew up in Liberty City with the late Mary Rocks Sams and Hildred Sams, where she attended Erilington heights elementary, Brownsville Middle School, and Miami Northwestern Senior High School, where she was the head cheerleader. She entered the nursing program and graduated among her class of 1982. Later down the line, Valencia continued her education at Miami Dade community college. After realizing that nursing was not for her, Valencia furthered her career path into the Dade County School Board System from October 20, 1997 to February 7, 2013. Valencia continued her profession of what she loved so much, cooking and working with children at Natural Bridge Elementary School. During this time, Valencia was battling with the process of starting to lose her eyesight, while continuing to work, she then started with the programs at the Miami Lighthouse for the Blind and Visually Impaired and the Division of Blind Services from December 13, 2012 to May 3, 2017, where she took classes to become independent and self-sufficient, completing tasks to live comfortable on her own while being legally blind.
During her journey, she created so many long-term positive friendships that she considered dear family to her.
I want to take the time to give a special thanks to the wonderful staff that created an unbreakable bond with Valencia: Corina Hernandez, Heidy Farinas, Pamala Ortiz, Delcie Pasco, and the late Brandon Gibson, Dr. Isiah, Daisy, Kassandra, Betty, Yurose, Ann, Elmina, Miriam, Tasha, Chris, Alex, and Dionne.
After 17 years of working for the school board, Valencia had to retire due to her complications of being diabetic and starting to lose her eyesight, and, as she would call it, starting on life lysis while waiting on kidney transplant.
This was the most challenging time for her, leaving her passion that she loved so much. No matter what the challenge was, she still had her faith and continued to stand on Ephesians 6:13-17 every single day walking her path.
After so many years of being on life lysis, hurting, and constantly being in pain, Valencia never gave up she continued to fight and always keep a smile on her face and a positive outlook on everything; a true woman of God. She would be at life lysis, hurting, weak, low blood pressure, and she would still find the strength to host the prayer line and pray for others every single day with her church family.
Valencia is a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend to all. She was very caring and showed appreciation with every challenge she faced.
April 27, 2023, Valencia Marcella Caldwell (59) entered the gates of Heaven.
Valencia survived by: four children who made up the entirety of her world, Nicole Caldwell, Chester Henton, Michael Caldwell, and Octavious Narcius; three sisters, Desaria Hawkins, Jamile Woodson, and Tiffany Young; and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren too many to name.
