Obituary

Violet Marie Lamb, affectionately known as “Sister,” was born on June 19, 1939, to Ethel Lamb Moore and Charles Pettit, Jr. A born and raised native to Delaware, she completed her education at William Henry Comprehensive High School in Dover. She married James W. Blackmon, a former airmen, on September 13, 1957, with whom she shared six children, Adrienne, Sabrina, James, Valerie, Jacqueline, and Jeffrey.

A hardworker and determined woman, “Vi,” was able to reinvent herself and her career, especially as a grandma raising two special granddaughters, Tomika and Tangela, whom she adored. She built a life and career she loved in Baltimore City, MD, working for the Baltimore City public schools as a district food services manager. Having over 30 years of fruitful, dedicated service, she retired in 2005.

Vi attended Mt. Tabor Baptist Church as a member and served as a nurse. Her pastime was spent with family creating memories, traveling, crocheting, and card playing. Her vibrant spirit and feisty personality were sure to leave you in stitches (LOL). Impacting all who crossed her path, she readily had laughs to share and wisdom to impart. Her favorite saying was “you gotta take some salt with the sweet,” ensuring throughout life’s challenges sweeter days lay ahead. Violet now joins her mother, father, and six siblings.

I met Mrs. Blackmon back in 1985 when I was married to Valerie. She was a very hyper and positive lady.

Rest in peace Mrs. Blackmon
