Obituary
Willia Mae Dean was born on April 12, 1931, with twin sister Ula Mae Dean in Miami, Florida to father, Thomas Dean and mother, Alitia Bain Dean. She was a very bright student who received her education in the Miami-Dade County public school system. Willia Mae attended both Douglass Elementary School and Dunbar Elementary School. Her scholarly endeavors would culminate at Booker T. Washington High School, Class of 1952, where she held the illustrious title of Miss Booker T. Washington, along with her twin sister Ula Mae. The simplest pleasures brought great joy to Willia Mae and she will be affectionately remembered for her outspoken personality, her love for gaming and her favorite set of numbers 8-4-7.
Willia Mae received the Lord early in life and joined St. Mary’s Wesleyan Methodist Church where she would faithfully attend service. The Lord was a constant presence in her life. As a result, Willia Mae showed kindness to those she encountered. On September 25, 1955, she married Eli Boyd, Sr., and this union birthed four phenomenal children, Eli Boyd, Jr., Edwin Boyd, Eleanor Boyd-Bentley, and Earl Boyd. Willia Mae was a devoted wife and mother. Her caring and nurturing spirit created memories of a lifetime.
In her free time, she volunteered at Lindsey Hopkins Vocational School. Willia Mae also enjoyed her duties as a Poll Worker during elections.
On Tuesday evening, September 26, 2023, the angels escorted Willia Mae through the portals of heaven into the glorious and radiant presence of our Heavenly Father. Her life which was so well-loved and well-lived was surrendered back to its maker leaving precious and fond memories.
Willia Mae was preceded in death by father, Thomas Dean; mother, Alitia Bain Dean; six sisters, Ruth Dean, Lillian Dean-Johnson, Pearl Dean-Stallard, Bertha Lee Adderly, Marie Dean Boykins, and Alitia Dean-Coleman; three brothers, Perkins, Fredrick, and Charles Dean; one nephew, Albert; one niece, Glynise; and one grandson, Deandre Boyd, Sr.
Willia Mae leaves to cherish her memory: four children, Eli Boyd, Jr. (Judy), Edwin Boyd, Sr., Eleanor Boyd-Bentley (Conrad), and Earl Boyd, Sr. (Sherril); a beloved twin sister, Ula Mae Coney; sixteen grandchildren, Ericka, Eli III, LaToya, Emmanuel, Elisha, Edwin Jr., Marquetta, Kierra, Angel, Cecilia, Jeffery Jr., Brittney, Katrice, Ebony, Rashad, Earl Jr.; five nieces, Majorie, Elaine, Shawnee, Sandy, and Gloria; and seven nephews, Theophilus, Theodore, Wilbert, Erwin, Elbert, Ewart, and Eric.
