Life Story
Adner Marcelin, J.D.
August 15, 1987 – May 8, 2025

The Servant … The Strategist … The Statesman
The Servant …  Who Leads and Provides (Psalm 23:1)
The beloved son of Anselme Marcelin and Alerte Louis Juene Marcelin, Adner Marcelin was born on August 5, 1987, at Martin Memorial Hospital - North Stuart, in Stuart, Florida. From the time he was a young boy, he learned from the nurturing members of his close-knit circle of supporters and encouragers (at home, church, school, and community), all who impressed upon him the importance of having integrity, establishing an impressive work ethic, being a positive influence, and making his mark on the world. These individuals also instilled in him duty and discipline for doing whatever he attempted, in a more excellent way. These values guided him throughout his life. He was a resident of Tallahassee, Florida.
… Who Refreshes and Strengthens (Psalm 23:2)
Adner’s relationship with God was groomed during his early years of training at Love Temple Church of God by Faith, his church home in Stuart. By faith, he was ushered into the grace of God and the salvation of Jesus Christ. He became a member of the household of faith and developed a personal relationship with God. He continued to grow his faith and became a member of Bethel Missionary Baptist Church in Tallahassee.
The Strategist … Who Renews and Leads in the Right Path (Psalm 23:3)
Adner’s educational journey began with the Martin County Public Schools: J.D. Parker Elementary School, Stuart Middle School, and Martin County High School where he took advantage of the dual enrollment program. As a result, he graduated from high school a year early and with his Associate of Arts (A.A.) degree. He then pursued his Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Criminal Justice from the Florida State University, earned his Master’s degree in Business Administration (M.B.A.) from Florida Institute of Technology, and obtained his Juris Doctorate (J.D.) degree from Thomas M. Cooley Law School.
… Who Gives Us Courage (Psalm 23:4)
Adner was gifted with a dynamic personality with magnetic appeal. His love for people was reflected in his daily interaction with them, for he was a relationship builder - the people’s choice, always ready, willing, and eager to assist in any way possible. As a committed legal servant, Adner devoted his career to advancing civil rights, and becoming the powerful voice for the voiceless. He led two terms with distinction as President of the Tallahassee Branch of the NAACP. He spearheaded countless initiatives to address systematic injustices, to protect voting rights, and to elevate marginalized communities. Keeping in step with his beliefs, he founded the Minority Voter Network in 2022. In this same year, Adner campaigned for Seat 5 position on the Tallahassee City Commission.
Throughout his life, Adner stood in the forefront of some of the most pivotal social justice movements of our times. His legal insight, together with his unwavering conviction catapulted his involvement in high profile cases – Trayvon Martin and George Floyd. Likewise, he assisted with the Madison (Florida) Nine case where ladies were accused of voter fraud for helping black citizens get registered to vote. This changed the national conversation on race and injustice.
Adner’s life was a testament to service, perseverance, and excellence. He was a fierce advocate for justice, beloved community leader, and cherished friend. A member of the Florida State University Black Alumni Association, he served as the National Secretary under the dynamic leadership of President Keith Carr. Their focus was to uplift the next generation of Black leaders. Equally important to him was volunteerism; he believed in giving back to the community. He was passionate about helping young people, especially those who resided in underserved communities. He felt that as Christians, everyone is responsible for the least, the lost, and the left out. He began this practice of giving back while he was in high school. He volunteered at the Boys & Girls Club and Gertrude Walden Child Care Center. As an adult, he continued supporting community activities and devoted his life to fighting for injustice and inequality.
The Statesman … Who Keeps Us Safe (Psalm 23:5)
Adner had a familiar presence as the City Executive at Self-Help Credit Union, and Public Relations and Law Firm Administrator for Ben Crump Law Firm; Paralegal and Communications Manager for Parks and Crump Law Firm. He was the Tallahassee Branch of NAACP President; Leon County President of the National Panhellenic Council, Executive Board Member of the Gadsden County Panhellenic Council, and the Democratic Black Caucus Secretary for Leon County. He was member of the Steering Committee for Leon County, Treasurer for the Democratic Club of North Florida, New Leaders Council Tallahassee, Class of 2021, as well as the National Secretary of FSU Black Alumni 2015 -2018.
Adner was actively involved with the Gamma Mu Lambda Chapter and a proud Life member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., an organization of college trained men who are committed to public service.
…Victory Over Death (Psalm 23:6)
Adner Marcelin was kindhearted, caring, and fun loving. His legacy of love has been left in the sands of time. He departed this earthly life and transitioned to his eternal home on Thursday, May 8, 2025.
Adner was a mentor, an advocate, and a man of integrity whose impact far reached the causes he championed. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched, the barriers he helped to dismantle, and the torch he passed to those who will continue to fight for equality. Loved ones who will cherish Adner Marcelin’s love and his memory are his loving parents: Anselme Marcelin and Alerte Louis Jeune Marcelin, both  of Stuart, FL; brother: Smith Marcelin of Jacksonville, FL; sisters: Ermithe Marcelin of Orlando, FL and Judith Marcelin of Orange, CA; niece: Chloe Annlysse Marcelin and niece/goddaughter: Zaelle Hailey Marcelin; godson: Nolan Howard; along with many other sorrowing relatives; a host of loving coworkers, mentees, his legal team, concerned friends, and his Alpha Phi Alpha brothers.
