Obituary

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, and kept the faith.” 2 Timothy 4:7
Albert Gerald McGhee was the fifth of seven sons and two daughters born to Ernest McGhee and Marian “Doretha” McGhee. Born October 28, 1957, he grew up in the Georgetown and Oak Estates communities of Madison, Florida. Because he possessed many positive qualities, his “village” regarded him as one who would one day make them all proud.
Preceding Albert in death were both of his parents and brothers: Ricky McGhee, Adolph Hill, and (recently) Rudolph Hill.
Albert accepted Christ as his Redeemer earlier in his life. He became a member of St. James Missionary Baptist Church. As he grew in faith, he allowed his love for the Lord to shine. He enjoyed talking about the goodness of the Lord and had no interest in nonsense. Albert had a giving spirit and enjoyed sharing whatever he had with others (even if he himself had just received the item).
A very intelligent young man, Albert was especially gifted in solving higher level mathematical concepts and functions. For this reason, he was a valuable resource in tutoring many of his peers. He was a graduate of Madison High School, North Florida Junior College (AA degree), and Florida A&M University (BA and MS degrees). Afterwards, he enlisted in the Army for a brief span of time.
Albert was generous and kind, but his good intentions were often misinterpreted. The health challenges he developed resulted in his not being able to establish himself in his chosen career or be the productive citizen he aspired to be. In his life’s journey Albert encountered many closed doors and missed opportunities but kept the faith. He never lost sight of his love for God and family.
From his early college days, Albert has been the ultimate sports fan who showed his NBA and NFL spirit by wearing his top-of-the-line sports attire – jerseys, shorts, head bands, and wristbands and coordinating tennis shoes long before athletic wear became the trend. He also carried around his official NBA basketball in case there were enough friends to play a quick game before the end of the day. Throughout the years, Albert kept up with stats for his favorite teams and athletes. His last teams whose attire he requested were the Green Bay Packers and the Lakers.
In addition to sports, Albert’s other favorite pastime activities were drawing and painting. He was also very good in solving crossword puzzles.
Albert Gerald McGhee fought the good fight of faith. On Monday, December 26, 2022, he quietly transitioned from his labor to receive “a Crown of Righteousness from the Righteous Judge”.
Forever cherishing his life, love, and legacy are Albert Gerald McGhee’s brothers: Jerry (Luvenia) Balloon, Adonald (Glenda) Hill, all of Tampa, FL, and Ray (Misha) McGhee of Miramar, FL; sisters: Eva McGhee Wilks of Jacksonville, FL and Marian McGhee Jackson of Belle Glade, FL; sisters-in-law: Shirley Hill of Perry, FL and Louise Hill of Jacksonville, FL; along with many other sorrowing relatives and loving friends.
