Obituary
The opening chapter symbolizing the Christian journey of Elder Betty Green Brooks began on November 23, 1951. She was the beloved daughter born to General Green and Sally Williams. It was apparent early in her life that God placed her in this world to do His will in a more excellent way. Her life was a testament to her faith and her commitment to serving others. She was a lifelong resident of Leon County (Miccosukee Community), Florida.
Elder Brooks accepted Christ as her personal Savior. The next chapters of her life journey demonstrated her sincere and obedient walk in His favor. A servant of the Most-High God, she worked in His vineyard to fulfill her purpose. She was a pillar of the church family, a faithful and committed Prayer Warrior, Intercessor, consecrated Mother, served as an Associate Pastor at the Miccosukee Church of God of Prophecy, and was later consecrated a Mother and ordained an Elder at Love and Faith Community Church. Some of the other responsibilities she committed to fulfilling over the years included her being the church clerk, Sunday School teacher, Bible Study teacher, and youth leader. A loving and concerned matriarch of her family, she instilled in each one the importance of their needing to walk upright before God for themselves. She willingly gave the best of her service because God requires everything to be done in decency and in order.
In addition to her Christian duty, Elder Brooks fulfilled career responsibilities as well. For nearly 20 years, she cooked professionally for a living. She was also employed as the efficient bookkeeper, chef, and manager of rental properties owned by the Walthal family.
“Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things; I will make thee ruler over many things…” (Matthew 25:21) Death is the last chapter in time and the first chapter in eternity. On Tuesday, September 16, 2025, Elder Betty Green Brooks fulfilled her promise to serve the Lord with gladness and relocated to her heavenly home in Paradise. A chapter ended, a page turned, a life well-lived, a rest well earned. “… Enter thou into the joy of the lord.”
It is hard to turn the page, however, knowing someone will not be in the next chapter, but the story must go on. The spiritual legacy of Elder Betty Green Brooks will forever be embedded in the hearts of all whose lives she impacted. Those who will celebrate her love, life, leadership, and legacy are her daughter: Sabrina R. Green of Tallahassee, FL; brothers: Frank Green and General Green, both of Tallahassee, FL, and Noble Green of Miccosukee, FL; sister: Hettie Green of Tallahassee, FL; grandchildren: Courtney Black, Jaylen Green, and Brandon Wyche; great-grandchildren: Princeton Black, Legendary Smart, Bryson Wyche, Jayla Green, and Jayde Green; step-children: Lajuan Brooks, Yolanda & Frank Mason; godchildren: Charissee Forbes and Reginald Wilson; sisters-in-law & brothers-in-law: Sydell (Eddie) Houston, Ruby (Warren) Hosea, and Harry Herring; and together with countless other sorrowing relatives, mournful friends, and uplifting church family members.
