Obituary
Sister Catherine Johnson Price
1944 ~ 2023
“When we all get to Heaven, what a day of rejoicing that will be!”
Catherine Johnson Price, the precious daughter of Joe Johnson, Sr. and Julia Taylor Johnson, began the first chapter of her earthly life on March 28, 1944. She and her siblings were all products of their Madison, Florida, “village” (home, community, church, and school) in which Christian values were taught and God was honored daily.
Preceding Catherine in death were both of her parents; her loving husband of nearly 20 years: Archie Price; her siblings: Henrietta Johnson, Charlie Mae Barfield, Mary Hall, Bert Johnson, Simon Johnson, and Joe Johnson, Jr.; and her very special niece: Simmie Lee Thomas.
Catherine was educated at Madison County Training School (MCTS) and was a graduate of the Class of 1962. She attended Suwanee River Junior College which was located on the MCTS campus. She later gained employment as librarian for a few years at her high school Alma Mata. However, in 1968, Catherine relocated to Jacksonville, Florida, to broaden her herizons. She began her career in the banking industry – First Union, Barnett Bank, and Bank of America - until her retirement with recognitions of her years of dedication and untiring service.
Catherine accepted Christ as her personal Savior, and demonstrated throughout her life, a sincere and obedient walk with the Lord. Continuing with her Christian upbringing, she was welcomed into membership at St. Joseph Missionary Baptist Church in Jacksonville where she was actively involved in the Usher Board Ministry.
Catherine was truly a “people person”. She was outgoing but also outspoken. She said what she meant and meant what she said because she spoke truth to power. Ultimately, she was regarded as the fun-loving “Madea” of the family.
Catherine was passionate about her pastime enjoyments which included cooking, traveling, and dressing well. She always added that extra dash of love to her mouth-watering dishes and/or meals for her family and friends. Because of her retirement, she enjoyed traveling to places around the country and abroad. As for her trendy attire,
she always dressed to the nines and looked glamorous in whatever she wore. She accented it with her signature Clinique Aromatics fragrance that lingered in the air.
On Friday, March 24, 2023, Catherine, with her faith strong and secure and with only four days before 79th birthday, her earthly life chapter ended only for her to begin her new promising chapter in her Heavenly book.
Accepting Catherine Johnson Price’s transition with Christian submission to God’s will in calling her home are her loving sister: Shellie (Lewis) Golden of Columbus, GA; sister-in-law: Loritta Johnson of Tampa, FL; a host of devoted nieces, nephews and cousins; along with many other sorrowing relatives and loving friends.
