Obituary

Brother Curtis “Chip” Gallon
March 26, 1959 – February 20, 2024
“I Would Rather Be a Doorkeeper in the House of my God….” ~Psalm 84:11
Brother Curtis Gallon, the son of Abe Gallon, Sr. and Essie Gallon, was born in Madison, Florida, on March 26, 1955. He grew up in the Georgetown community where his parents had the support of other family members, church family, neighbors, and teachers to ensure that he and his siblings stayed on the right track for success. He was affectionately known as “Chip” throughout the community that he resided his entire life.
Another branch from the massive family tree has fallen, but the Gallons’ roots extend deep in the soil. Preceding Curtis in death were his parents, Abe and Essie Gallon, Sr. and his brothers, Samuel Gallon and Terry Gallon.
Curtis received his formal education in the Madison County Public School System and was a 1975 Madison High School graduate.
“I said I wasn’t going to tell nobody, but I couldn’t keep it to myself.” Earlier in his life, Curtis desired to have a relationship with the Lord which led him to accept by faith that Jesus Christ was his Redeemer. Following his baptism and under the pastoral leadership of the Reverend J.W. Joseph, he became a faithful member of St. James Missionary Baptist Church. He later chose to become an usher, a position he willingly served for the glory of God, not for the recognition of man.
Chip was an industrious worker and a good provider. His lengthy employment career began at Dixie Packers meat processing plant, also included Florida Plywood and Smithfield meats, and ended with his being in a supervisory position at Gold Kist/Pilgrim’s Pride poultry plant.
Curtis loved the simple things in life and cherished life itself. He enjoyed fishing from his favorite fishing banks for the daily catch or just sitting and talking to the boys/his friends to discuss current events or to use the commonsense approach to solve society’s issues or just to encourage each other.
You will always find God when one’s home is filled with love. Chip was a family man who demonstrated love for his family – whether in times of joy or sorrow. He loved his wife and son, but his love for his  grandchildren was unending.
Curtis Gallon lived to die only to live again. The Lord chose Tuesday, February 20, 2024, to bring his humble servant home to receive the crown of righteousness from the Righteous Judge. His soul is now resting in the presence of the Lord.
It is hard to forget someone who gave you so much to remember. While Curtis Gallon may be gone from his loved one’s sight, he will never be from their hearts. Cherishing his precious memories are his devoted wife of 36 years: Mary Barfield Gallon; son: Delvin Gallon; sisters: Marie (Willie) Jones, Margie Roberta Davis, Deloris Gallon, and Patricia (Johnny) Woods; brothers: Eddie (Eula) Gallon, Freddie (Ruth) Gallon,
Abe (Lorene) Gallon, Jr., Steve (Marilyn) Gallon, Leon Gallon, Richard (Carol) Gallon, and Phillip (Beatrice) Gallon; special niece raised as a sister: Veronica (Lorenzo) Haynes: brothers-in-law: Paul Barfield and John Barfield; sisters-in-law: Vivian Barfield, Fontina Barfield and Mary Gallon; grandchildren who were “the apples of his eye”: Tameria Gallon and Amir Gallon; godson: Mario Vought; and special cousins: David (Gwendolyn) Johnson; along with countless other sorrowing relatives and compassionate friends.
