Obituary

On January 13, 1950, Curtis Lee Collins, Sr. was born in Madison, Florida, to the union of Thomas Collins and Lula Mae Davis Collins. Curtis, well-known in his hometown, was affectionately called “Curt” by those who knew him best. However, to his grandchildren and his Kingdom Bound Church family, he was lovingly called “Papa Curtis.”

Curt was preceded in death by his parents: Thomas and Lula Mae Davis Collins: brother: Thomas Billy Collins; and his sisters: Earlene Collins and Nora Dean Ealy.

While living most of his adult life in Madison, Curt was employed as a driver with the Florida Department of Transportation. He retired after more than 20 years of dedicated service.

The hobbies Papa Curt enjoyed most were fishing and shooting pool/billiards. He passed on his love of fishing to his son, Curtis, Jr. He also loved good soul food and never turned down a good soul food meal.

Curt relocated to Texas in 2016, when his health began to decline. In 2017, under the spiritual leadership of his son, Apostle Curtis L. Collins, Jr., Curt rededicated his life to Christ and was baptized at Kingdom Bound Community Church.

Curt was a man of few words, but when he spoke, he imparted wisdom, and he left a lifelong impression with listeners. He shared a special connection with the youth, and they gravitated towards him. They loved being in his company and always provided him with snacks after church.

Curtis Lee Collins, Sr. lived the rest of his life under the loving care of his faithful family. On the evening of July 31, 2024, God saw that Curt was getting tired and gave directions that it was time for him to rest. He readily accepted this call from glory to reward.

Those left to cherish his loving memory are his wife: Mary Edward Collins of Madison, Florida; sons: Curtis L. Collins, Jr. (Katina) of New Caney, Texas, Jermaine (Ca’Rhonda) Collins of Spring, Texas and DeVonte Collins of Madison, Florida; brothers: Leonard (Malinda) Collins, Sr. of Boynton Beach, Florida and Calvin Collins of Madison, Florida; sisters: Dorothy Collins and Louise Collins, both of Madison, Florida; brother-in- law: Charleston Ealy of Madison, Florida; his beloved grandchildren, great-grandchildren and numerous other sorrowing relatives and loving friends.
