Obituary
“…Give me two wings so that I can fly away, and the world can’t do me no harm.”
Mrs. Debra Jean Epps Wingfield was a special blessing born to Forrest Epps and Earnestine Woods Epps on March 29, 1960. She, along with her siblings, grew up in the Charlotte, North Carolina, area. As a young woman, she accepted every opportunity to travel, which resulted in her gaining life-altering experiences from other cultures and countries around the world. However, her final relocation was to Madison, Florida, where she has resided since 2007.
In addition to her parents, Debra was preceded in death by her brothers, Forrest Epps, Jr., Daryl Epps, and Christopher Epps.
Earlier in her life, Debra professed her belief that Jesus Christ was her Savior and continued to worship Him in spirit and in truth. She was a member of Mt. Zion African Methodist Episcopal Church of Madison, Florida.
Debra was a member of the Order of Eastern Star - Chapter 15 in Ashville, NC.
Debra gained academic achievement in the Charlotte, North Carolina, educational systems, which prepared her for a vast array of successful work experiences, holding positions as bank accountant, daycare center owner, and military base employment at many points around the world.
Debra was very loving, patient, and understanding, but she was also straightforward and real. These qualities, together with her godly counsel, she applied tough love as her teaching tool for her children. She was a woman of great strength who managed to keep her emotions in check and not give in to tears nor be the gracious host of her own pity party. She cared about everybody and was known to give her last, even when she did not have much left to give or was willing to give the clothes off her back if she needed to do so.
Debra relaxed by taking advantage of her many God-given talents. She enjoyed drawing, knitting, and playing the piano or listening to a variety of music. She was an excellent cook with everything she prepared, especially her savory pound cakes and her trademark “Debra Fried Chicken”.
With her faith strong and secure, Debra Jean Epps Wingfield meditated on both Isaiah 6:2 and the lyrics of her favorite gospel song, “Two Wings”. She petitioned the Lord to give her “two wings to veil her feet, two wings to veil her face, two wings to fly away, and the world can’t do her no harm.” God granted her with wings to fly away on Monday, December 12, 2022. She can now rest in heaven and rest in peace.
“It broke our hearts to lose you, but you didn’t go alone, for part of us went with you the day God took you home.” Forever cherishing the love and special memories of Debra Jean Epps Wingfield are: caring husband, Timothy McCray, Jr.; devoted children: Malcolm (Ahtori) Wingfield of Tampa, FL, Wade Wingfield, Jr., and Brooklynn (Adrian, fiancé) Wingfield, all of Madison, FL; sister: Gloria (Fred) McClain of Kings Mountain, NC; brother: Sylvester Epps of Ashville, NC; granddaughter: Ahlani Wingfield; along with many other sorrowing relatives and loving friends.
