Obituary

Dorothy Mae Hayes Bryant, affectionately known as “Dot”, was the beloved daughter of Sallie Floyd Hayes and Charlie Hayes, Sr. She was born on July 18, 1941, in Tallahassee, Florida. She was a lifelong resident of this community.

Dorothy accepted Christ at an early age and became a dutiful member of Mt. Zion Primitive Baptist Church. Her love for worshipping there included her faithfulness in serving an usher, singing in the choir and serving as the choir president; she proudly fulfilled these responsibilities with pride and devotion, but most of all, to glorify God.

Dorothy retired from Tallahassee Memorial Hospital after many years of dedicated and untiring service. Afterwards, she became the highly sought-after private aide/caregiver, who was widely known for her compassion, reliability, and professionalism with patients in her care.

Dorothy created more beauty in the world through her love for people. She was a fun person who enjoyed being around others; her love for all reflected the warmth of her winning smile and the loving treatment she shared with everyone.

During her time away from her job, Dot enjoyed cooking; she also loved dancing, but on game day “on the highest of seven hills”, she was a loyal #1 fan of Florida A&M University who rightfully earned the reputation for being one of Rattler Nation’s liveliest and most spirited supporters.

In Dorothy Mae Hayes Bryant’s weakness, God made her strong to walk in victory. On Monday, January 12, 2026, she quietly and peacefully transitioned from this walk of life to begin her everlasting celebration with Jesus.

Loved ones who will continue to cherish her love, and honor the precious memories of Dorothy Mae Hayes Bryant are her children: Wilson (Debra) Jones, Michael (Rose) Bryant, Cedric T. (Brenda) Bryant, Anthony Johnson Sr., Sherry Bryant, Gabriel (LaJwanda) Starkes, Harvey B. Walden Jr., Ira Miller Jr., and Tallas Bradley; her siblings: Ollie Walthall, Willie C. Hayes, Elouise Dickey, Charlie Hayes Jr. Samuel Hayes, Herman (Joretha) Hayes, Cynthia Norris, Brenda Hayes, and Margaret Hayes, all of Tallahassee, FL; close friends: Theressa Staley and Piccola Solomon; goddaughter, Sha ’Ron James; along with a host of loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and sorrowing friends.

Dorothy Mae Hayes Bryant was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie Hayes, Sr. and Sallie Floyd Hayes; and seven siblings, John “L J” Hayes, Curtis Hayes, Otis Footman Hayes, Dennia Hayes, Lillie Ruth Hayes, Ethel Hayes, and Ruther Lee Hayes.
