Obituary

There was a quiet strength about Ms. Flossie Mae Jones—a woman of few words, yet a heart full of melody, memories, and meaning. Born on September 2, 1954, to the late Willie James Jones, Sr. and Mary Jane Wesley Jones, Flossie’s life was a gentle yet powerful testimony of faith, resilience, and authenticity.

In the stillness of many days, you could find her sitting peacefully on the side of her mother’s home, her voice softly carrying the timeless tune of A Change Is Gonna Come by Sam Cooke. It was more than a song to her—it reflected her spirit, her hope, and her journey through life.

Flossie cherished her faith and found joy in lifting her voice in praise. Before her illness, she sang faithfully in the choir at New Bethel Primitive Baptist Church, where her signature selection, “Trouble in My Way,” became a heartfelt expression of her testimony. Through song, she connected deeply with God and those around her.

A woman of dedication and quiet strength, Flossie worked diligently for 35 years at Goldkist Poultry Plant, retiring with pride and honor. Her strong work ethic and unwavering commitment spoke volumes about the life she lived. She attended Madison Training School and furthered her development through Job Corps at an early age, laying a foundation that would guide her throughout her journey.

Flossie found joy in life’s simple pleasures. On Saturdays, she was known for her signature look—white jeans paired with a neatly starched shirt—as she made her way across the tracks to enjoy a Sally Mae burger or an “Emma Special.” She was not one for crowds, preferring a quiet, private life surrounded by a close-knit circle of loved ones.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Willie James Jones, Sr. and Mary Jane Wesley Jones; her brothers, Ronnie Jones and Willie James Weatherspoon; and dear friends Gloria West and Jimmy Lee Graham.
On April 19, 2026, Flossie Mae Jones peacefully transitioned from labor to reward, leaving behind a legacy that will forever live in the hearts of those who loved her.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories her devoted son, Alphonso Frazier (Jamiqua); her beloved grandchildren, Damien Frazier (Keyshaunda), Jamarrien Davies, and Jheir’zarae Davies. She is also survived by her siblings: Deloris Jones; Willie James Jones (Marie) of Madison, Florida; Eula Calhoun (Jefferey) of Live Oak, Florida; Albert James Kemp (Johnetta) of Locust Grove, Georgia; Clara Wilson (Kenneth) of Columbus, Georgia; and Stevie Jones of Orlando, Florida.

Her legacy continues through her aunts, Ruby Lee Pride, Betty Lou Straugther, and Mary Wesley, all of Madison, Florida, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends, including Terry Martin, Bertha Woods, and Ann Thomas; along with a host of other loving relatives and sorrowing friends.

Flossie Mae Jones lived life on her own terms—quietly, faithfully, and with grace. Though she did not seek attention, her life was a beautiful song—one of perseverance, peace, and purpose—that will echo in the hearts of all who knew her.
