Obituary
“If I can help somebody as I travel along; no, my living shall not be in vain.”
BROTHER FREDDIE MACK WEATHERSPOON, SR., was the bright-eyed baby boy born to Calvin Weatherspoon, Sr. and Bernice Green Weatherspoon on March 27, 1957. He grew up on a farm in the close-knit Cherry Lake, Florida neighborhood known as “Up the Lane”. In his family, the children were taught the importance of being respectful, having a work ethic, and treating others the way you want to be treated. He remained a lifelong resident of Madison County, Florida.
Preceding Freddie, Sr. in crossing from this walk of life were both parents; brother: Calvin Weatherspoon, Jr.; sisters: Mary Francis Hickman and Bernell Mosley; brother-in-law: Tony Weatherspoon; sister-in-law: LaKisha Weatherspoon Davis.
Freddie, Sr. accepted Christ as his risen Savior under the pastoral leadership of the Reverend James C. Miller. From this life changing experience, he became an active member of Architillery Baptist Church where he continued to grow in faith and in grace.
Freddie, Sr. was educated in the Madison County School District and graduated with the Class of 1977 from Madison High School. Afterwards, he chose to enter the work force.
Freddie was a hard worker who enjoyed being outside and used every opportunity to be in the fresh air and sunshine. He was employed at Sunset Farm Foods in Valdosta, GA, for more than fifteen years and previously at Dixie Packers in Madison, FL, for thirty years. He was also the owner of a grounds keeping business that was highly rated by his customers. However, during his pastime, he also loved repairing vehicles, riding and racing his motorcycle, as well as grilling. Freddie was a very jolly person who loved to jokingly trash talk.
He created a very special bond with his family because of his kind and loving spirit. As a result, he and Rosetta lovingly shared more than thirty-five years together with thirty-two of those years as husband and wife. He was a great father to Mercedes and Freddie, Jr., and the BEST “Pa-Pa” ever for his grandchildren, Alia and Messiah, who always looked forward to their daily playtime with him.
Freddie Mack Weatherspoon, Sr. was determined to do as much as he could, for all that he could, and in any way that he could. He answered the Master’s call and quietly transitioned from labor to receive his reward on Saturday, December 3, 2022. Now is his time to rest in peace.
Cherishing the special memories of Freddie Mack Weatherspoon, Sr.’s well-lived life are his loving and devoted wife: Rosetta Johnson Weatherspoon of Madison, FL; loving children: Freddie Mack Weatherspoon, Jr. and Mercedes Weatherspoon, both of Madison, FL; adorable grandchildren: Alia Thomas and Messiah Thomas; brothers: Benet (Janice) Weatherspoon of Bossier City, LA, Robert (Deborah) Weatherspoon of Lake City, FL, and Edward Charles (Marge) Weatherspoon of Norfolk, VA; sisters: Bettye (Willie) McDaniel of Ft. Myers, FL, Margaret (Linwood) Staton of Kernersville, NC; mother-in-law: Maggie Weatherspoon Burks of Madison, FL; sisters-in-law: Kimberly (Freeman) Mobley of Madison, FL, Wanda O’Hara of Atlanta, GA, and Dana (Reggie) Page of Tampa, FL; brothers-in-law: Bennie Hickman and M.C. Mosley, both of Delray, FL, James (Ronnea) Weatherspoon of Jacksonville, FL and Dale Robinson of Madison, FL; close friend: Sammie Walker of Madison, FL; together with countless other sorrowful relatives and loving friends.
