Obituary
“I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me,
though he may die, he shall live.” John 11:25
Deaconess Geneva Gross Turner, the daughter of Bud Gross and Willie Mae McCall Gross, was born December 5, 1941. She was a lifelong resident of Madison County, Florida. Not only did members of this community look out for her best interest and positively shape her life, but they did likewise for her children and her grandchildren.
Preceding Deaconess Geneva in death were both parents and her brother: John Henry Boykins.
Deaconess Turner graduated from Madison County Training School which also prepared her for life’s challenges as well as its successes. In addition to completing the educational requirements, she also learned to keep God foremost in her life, to establish priorities, and to do her best at whatever she attempted.
Deaconess Turner believed that Jesus Christ was her Redeemer and accepted Him in her heart. She was baptized by faith and began her work for the Lord. She was a faithful member of New Generation Missionary Baptist Church.
Deaconess Turner was a hard worker who provided all of the needs and many of the wants of her sons as they were growing up. She was employed for 27 years at Gold Kist poultry processing plant and 12 years at Lee Elementary School. On both jobs, she demonstrated the importance of having a work ethic. Her outgoing personality drew many individuals in her circle of meaningful friendships both on and off the job.
Likewise, Deaconess Turner raised her sons with godly wisdom and truth. She also played an active role in their lives as well as those of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren who ultimately stole her heart. Likewise, she was a respected community mother who also loved to prepare homecooked meals. As a result, her home was always open to their friends who enjoyed her gracious hospitality and culinary expertise.
Deaconess Geneva Gross Turner lived to die only to live again. “She had blessed peace with her Lord so near”. Therefore, on Tuesday, January 10, 2023, she crossed from this walk of life to receive her heavenly reward.
Those whose lives were impacted by Deaconess Geneva Gross Turner will miss her with great sadness, but her memory will be honored with love, hope, and profound gratitude. Among these to cherish her precious memory are her devoted sons: Frankie Turner and William “Bill” Turner III, both of Madison, FL; brother: Willie McCall of Augusta, GA; grandchildren: Tamika (Joshua, Sr.) Roy and Marquis Turner, both of Tallahassee, FL, Shantrell (Jamaal) Dickens of Orlando, FL, William Turner IV and DyNeziah Jonas, both of Madison, FL, and Frandricka Turner of Atlanta, GA; thirteen great-grandchildren; sister-in-law: Elaine (Willie) Guion of Plant City, FL; along with many other sorrowing relatives and loving friends.
