Obituary
James Clarence Hills, Jr. began his first chapter of life on February 8, 1984, when he blessed the lives of his parents, James Clarence Hills, Sr. and Lenora Sanders. Not only was he the “apple of their eye”, but he was lovingly embraced by his extended family members as well. He was a lifelong resident of Madison, Florida.
Preceding James in death were his aunt, Murlene Weatherspoon and his uncle, Jimmy Lee Sanders.
James was affectionately called “Mane” and was regarded as a real Mama’s boy because of the bond he shared with his loving Ma-Ma. She taught him early in life the importance of family - how they were there for each other in good times as well as not so good times to keep each other encouraged and uplifted. He truly loved his family and was there for them.
Mane was an intellectual who used both common sense (which is not too common anymore) and street sense. He was able to get along with everybody because he lived by the “Golden Rule: Do unto to others as you would have them to do unto you.” Additionally, he was very friendly; he never met strangers, for he regarded them as friends he had not gotten a chance to meet. James was also kind-hearted and caring. He led with Christian example, especially with his happy spirit and his being a peacemaker. On the other hand, he could also be a jokester who could make any situation fun.
Good-byes hurt the most when a loved one’s earthly chapter was not finished. On Monday, December 25, 2023, the final chapter in time for James Clarence Hills, Jr. unexpectedly became his first chapter in eternity. “In the end, it’s not the years in your life that count; it’s the life in your years.”
While he is gone from everyone’s sight, he is never from their hearts. When someone you love becomes a memory, the memory becomes a treasure. Treasuring countless memories for the unfinished life chapters of James Clarence Hills, Jr. are his parents: James Clarence Hills, Sr. and Lenora Sanders, both of Madison, FL: children: Clarence Hills III of Madison, FL and Jamescia Hills of Greenville, FL; maternal grandmother: Elnora Sanders of Madison, FL; paternal grandmother: Margaret Hills Sutton of Pinetta, FL; father figure: Alfred J. Hall of Madison, FL; siblings: Deangelo Hills, Clarance Hills, Gary Hills, Quincy Hills, and Tanika Hills; uncles: Clifford (Vera) Hills of Tampa, FL, George (Rose Mary) White of Madison, FL; aunts: Maria Sanders and Gracie (Marvin) Livingston all of Madison, FL, Geneva (Marshall) Walker of Quincy, FL, Velma Mathis and Tempie (Carl) Alexander, all of Jacksonville, FL, Patsy L. Sanders, Joann Hills, Lora Hills, all of Madison, FL and Clifstonia Hills of Miami, FL; special cousin: Barbara Jean Brown; special friend: Adrienne Grant Smith; along with a host of many loving cousins and sorrowing friends.
