Obituary

“but a woman who feareth the Lord, she shall be praised” Proverbs 31: 30b

Mother Lorene Smith Alexander was a special blessing given to her parents, Henry Smith and Ollie Christopher Smith, when she came into the world on May 23, 1933, in Brooks County, Georgia. She resided in the area until she was united in holy matrimony to the love of her life, Jimmie Alexander, Jr. and moved to Madison, Florida.

Mother Alexander was preceded in death by her parents; her devoted husband of 48 years; sisters: Eliza Hill, Victoria Copeland, Essie Mae Herbert, Florie Miles, Myrtice James, Louise Murphy, Ruby Parson Hatten, and Willie Mae Denson; and brothers: Melvin Emanuel Smith and Arthur Parsons.

Early in her life, Mother Alexander accepted Christ as her Savior. Her faith as well as her love for the Lord increased as she lived by His Commandments and the Golden Rule. She was also a patient person but was steadfast in offering kind words of wisdom, godly advice, and wise counsel.

Education was most important in the Alexander household, and Mother Lorene, along with her husband, made certain that their children received theirs even if they had to take them to school whenever/if they missed the school bus. On the other hand, she amazed her children with her knowledge of events and dates, and they proudly regarded her as the family historian. She had a vivid memory and often shared stories and traditions that spanned many generations.

Mother Lorene’s family had a special place in her heart because they were her pride and joy. She had a great sense of humor but was also no nonsense.

Life for Mother Alexander was a blessing she did not take for granted. She loved going to church and listening to gospel music. She also enjoyed solving crossword puzzles, watching “The Waltons”, and cooking for her family.

“Some glad morning, when this life is over, I’ll fly away, to the land where joy shall never end”. God designated Monday, November 28, 2022, as the day for Mother Lorene Smith Alexander to “fly away to a home on God’s celestial shore” where she will dwell forever more.

The keepers of Mother Lorene Smith Alexander’s life, love, and legacy are her loving and devoted children: Jimmie E. (Reffeletia) Alexander III, Leroy (Lillie) Alexander, Pastor Jerry (Merelda) Alexander, all of Madison, FL, Rev. Bruce (Harnitha) Alexander of Richmond Hill, GA, David Alexander and Gary Alexander, both of Madison, FL and Michael (Dr. Nicoletta) Alexander of Cape Coral, FL, and Teresa Alexander also of Madison, FL; sisters: Ethel Smith and Inez Hall, both of Morven, GA; sisters-in-law: Mary Lou (Eddie) Luster, Luneal Alexander, Ola Alexander, all of Madison, FL, Merlene Parsons of Los Angeles, CA; brothers-in-law: Eddie Thomas and B.J. Alexander, both of Madison, FL, John Murphy of Quitman, GA; twelve grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren; along with many other sorrowing relatives and loving friends.
