Obituary
Linda Faye Nelson entered this life on May 13, 1963, in Monticello, Florida, born to the late Deacon Willie Nelson and Mrs. Annie M. Ammons-King-Nelson. From her earliest years, Linda was nurtured by the love, strength, and faith of a large and devoted family. She was raised with enduring values that guided her throughout her life: devotion to God, love for family, commitment to education, and service to others.
Linda attended school in Jefferson County and proudly graduated from Jefferson County High School, Class of 1981. Following graduation, she relocated to Jacksonville, Florida, where she continued to establish the foundation for her future. She attended Florida Community College, earning a bachelor’s degree in psychology, and later furthered her education by earning a master’s degree in clinical social work from Florida State University. Her dedication to learning reflected her determination to grow, achieve, and prepare herself for a meaningful life of service.
For forty-five years, Linda made the Jacksonville area her home. During that time, she established an honorable career at Naval Air Station Jacksonville, where she faithfully served in several professional capacities. In her final role, she served as a Procurement Analyst in the Small Business Programs. Her distinguished career stood as a testament to her professionalism, perseverance, and commitment to excellence in every responsibility entrusted to her.
Beyond her professional endeavors, Linda devoted her heart to her community and her ministry. Linda served as Pastor of Hope A Place Of Refuge Enrichment Center on Jacksonville’s westside. She led the congregation with faith, compassion, and dedication, remaining steadfast in service until her final rest. She remained active in the Jacksonville community, particularly through her work with youth, authoring a children’s book titled Shelly and the Bad Mirror. She consistently sought to provide encouragement, guidance, and hope for others by founding the Jacksonville Black Christian Singles Ministry. Among her many talents, Linda absolutely loved to sing.
On Saturday, July 18, 2026, Pastor Linda Faye Nelson peacefully answered her Master’s call and exchanged the burdens of this earthly life for the eternal joy of her heavenly home. Having fought the good fight, finished her course, and kept the faith, she was welcomed into the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, whom she faithfully served throughout her life. Though her voice has been stilled on earth, her witness, her ministry, and the lives she touched will continue to proclaim the goodness and faithfulness of God for generations to come.
Linda was one of fifteen children, belonging to a family that included ten brothers and four sisters. She shared a lifetime of cherished memories, enduring bonds, and abiding love with her siblings. Six of her siblings preceded her in death: Earl Ford, Mamie Ammons, Robert Ammons, Barbara Gray-Washington, Sherril Nelson-Monroe, Wayne Nelson, and Carol Nelson.
She leaves to cherish her memory seven brothers: Dr. James C. (Clara) Ammons, Sr., of Kingsland, Georgia; Edward (Dorothy) Ammons of Tacoma, Washington; Moses (Lenore) Ammons of Silver Spring, Maryland; Timothy King of Monticello, Florida; Alonza King of Tallahassee, Florida; Jerome Nelson of Montgomery, Alabama; and Charles (Carmen) Nelson of Tallahassee, Florida. Her legacy continues to shine through a host of beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, Godchildren, extended family members, dear friends, and the countless lives she influenced through her ministry, service, and unwavering faith.
