Reverend James Oliver Robinson, Jr., often called “Shorty,” was the beloved son of James Oliver Robinson, Sr. and Gertrude Jackson Ghent. He was born on August 16, 1951, in Madison, Florida. During his upbringing, he was taught to love God, to be responsible, and to be disciplined in all areas of his life. He was a well-respected, lifelong resident of this community.

Earlier in his life, Reverend Robinson accepted Christ as his Savior and was baptized by faith. He then became a faithful member of Evergreen Missionary Baptist Church. Because of his love of singing, he found his place as a choir member. His faithful dedication positioned him to be appointed the Benevolent Committee Chairman. Most of all, he was chosen by God to become a Minister of the Gospel. His obedience and dedication, as well as the support of the church, positioned him to become the Associate Minister for Elder Sim Alexander and Chairman of the Evergreen Men’s Ministry. Likewise, he was especially passionate about their outreach ministry for visiting the residents at Lake Park Nursing Home and Madison Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Having grown up with his caring village, Reverend Robinson developed a strong work ethic which enabled him to secure positions in a variety of job opportunities. His first career was in agriculture because he had farming experience. However, when the Dixie Packers meat processing plant came to the area, he was hired as a meat cutter. His last major position was that of a transport driver for the residents at Pine Lake Nursing Home.

Reverend Robinson was concerned about the neighborhood youth, especially during the summer months when they were at home with nothing constructive to do. He and a few other concerned men decided to make a difference by coaching them in baseball and softball and forming teams. It was a win-win situation for all involved and God got the glory.

Reverend Robinson’s favorite pastimes were finding peace in nature and casting his line at his favorite fishing spots. He once had the opportunity to go on a fishing trip with a friend to Bimini Bahamas. While he enjoyed his mini vacation and the scenery, he was not satisfied with his catch of unfamiliar fish.

Reverend James Oliver Robinson, Jr. walked in the favor and blessings of God, and as a result, he was stronger by faith and wiser by experience. He completed his life journey on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, and was called to his new residence in Paradise to receive his heavenly reward. Servant of God, well done. You have earned your eternal rest.

Preceding Reverend James Oliver Robinson, Jr. in death were his parents, James Oliver Robinson, Sr. and Gertrude Jackson Ghent; his sister, Mattie Pearl Jones, and his adopted brother, R.B. Wright.
