Obituary

West Neal, the son of Jeffrey Neal and Daisy Mae Felton Neal, was born on October 9, 1944, in Byromville, Georgia. Many years later, he made the decision  to relocate to Miami, Florida, to seek opportunities for a better life. This remained the city of his residence until 15 years ago when he relocated to Madison, Florida, to be closer to his adult children and grandchildren.

West was a man of faith in Jesus Christ. He was a member of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church in Miami, Florida. He was a shining example of God’s love and grace.

A man of many talents, Big West (as he was affectionately known) was an excellent cook who worked as a chef for many years. When the time was right, he stepped out on faith, using his “people skills” coupled with his entrepreneurial skills, to establish several businesses for himself. He owned a lawn service and a gas station which afforded him opportunities to meet, greet, and to get to know many people. He later transported fuel for Miami Home Gas Corporation. His greatest joy was his being of service to others.

Because of his sense of humor, West was a fun person to be around. He did not have a career on stage as a comedian, but he seized every opportunity to show the brighter side of life with his lighthearted joking. He always had an audience who appreciated him for making their day much brighter by giving them opportunities to laugh. (Some of his children inherited this quality.)

It has been stated that you can give without loving, but you cannot love without giving. That which West Neal gave could not be measured in dollars and cents but rather be seen through his actions and his loving ways. He was determined to help in any way possible, for he loved his family unconditionally, valued his friends, and treasured life itself.

West Neal had his final conversation with God on Friday, July 11, 2025. He chose to forsake this world with its troubles and exchange it for his home in Glory. It was well with his soul.

West Neal leaves behind a legacy of love, humor, generosity, and commitment that will continue to uplift and inspire. His loved ones will miss him, but their faith has strengthened their hope in knowing that they, too, will be able to see him again one day. Those who will celebrate his life and remember his labor of love are his devoted sons: Wesley Neal, Jr. and Christopher D. Neal, both of Madison, FL; his  faithful daughters: Shalina Neal and Minister Cherith (Tyrie) Neal Florence, both of Madison, FL and Mae (Robert) Woodson, Mary (Bobby) Woodson, and Lisa Austin; sisters: Annette (Carl) Walker, Rebecca Shelley, Mary Hodges, Sharon Neal, all of Miami, FL, and Linda Turner of Atlanta, GA; twelve loving grandchildren; a host of beloved nieces and nephews; along with many other sorrowing relatives, comforting friends, and concerned neighbors.

Loved ones who have preceded West Neal in death were his parents: Jeffrey Neal and Daisy Mae Felton Neal; children: Windall Neal and Yolanda Houston; brothers: Ramsey Neal, Jeffrey Neal, Jr., Joseph Neal, Willie J. Neal, and sister: Georgia Mae Neal.
