Obituary
ARTHUR LEE MCCLAIN “Teenie,” “Tina,” “Medicine Man,” “Mist Man,” “Captain,” departed this life at St. John’s Hospital on January 28, 2026, at the age of 71. Arthur was born October 6, 1954, in Mound Bayou, Mississippi, the son of Lewis and Jail McClain. Arthur moved to Springfield, Illinois shortly after graduating high school.
On May 29, 1992, he married Mary Jane Edwards. Mr. Arthur McClain was a chef, landscaper, handyman, and jack of all trades. He loved to fish, cut grass, and feed people. Arthur won several tournaments during the Black White and Blues festivals. In the years he worked for Tops Big Boy, Hilton, and Goldman Burns for many years. Arthur loved his kids and grandkids to death. His caregiver/daughter (Lenessica) was his pacemaker for when his heart was broken. Arthur was hospitalized for two months prior to his death. Arthur was a fighter, but we knew he was tired. Although it was hard to see him go, he is now resting with the Father in heaven, who will take over from here. Arthur’s wishes, which he made known, is if he leaves this earth before his wife, “Please take care of her,” and that we will do. We will forever miss you Arthur Lee McClain, Sr. Lenessica was by his side no matter what the situation was or what time it was, all the way to his last breath.
Arthur was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Willie McClain; and son, Jarrod Hammonds.
He leaves to cherish memories: his precious wife, Mary Jane McClain; sons, Arthur McClain (Peewee), Alton McClain, Arthur McClain, Lenard McClain, and Stephen Bottoms; daughters, Mary Rogers, Katherine Edwards, Lenessica McClain, Jessica McClain, and Tina McClain, all of Springfield, IL; brothers, Lewis McClain, Jr. (Delonda) of Springfield, IL, Arthur B. McClain (Sallic) of Dublin, GA, Leonard McClain of Stone Mountain, GA, Robert McClain (Kathy) of Springfield, II., David McClain (Mayola) of Springfield, IL, Frederick McClain of Springfield, IL., Milton McClain of Springfield, IL, James Sims (Shannon) Indianapolis, IN; sisters, Margaret Black Bonaire, GA, Leola Scott of Mound Bayou MS, Betty McClain-Thomas (Rev. Clarence) of Dublin, GA; Linda McClain of Dublin, GA; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
