Obituary

Ms. Carol Sue Barbour was born on August 23, 1946, in Boonville, Missouri, in Cooper County. She moved to Springfield, Illinois, as an infant, where she was raised and later graduated from Feitshans High School.

Carol dedicated many years of service to the state of Illinois, where she worked faithfully until her retirement. She was known for her strong work ethic, reliability, and commitment.

In her younger years, Carol was known to most of her family and friends as “Mickey.” Later in life, she became lovingly and affectionately known as “Grandma Carol,” a name that reflected the warmth, care, and love she shared so freely with others. Generous, warm, and welcoming, Carol embraced the role of Grandma Carol and became a grandmother figure to many, not only within her family but also to countless others throughout Illinois and Ohio.

Carol was direct in her conversations, honest, straightforward, and sincere, qualities that those who knew her respected and appreciated. She found joy in life’s simple pleasures, including reading, going to the movies, enjoying ice cream, and, most of all, spending time with
her grandchildren.

Her devotion to family was evident in everything she did. She shared an especially close bond with her mother, who was not only her parent, but also her best friend. Carol also loved spending time with her friends, laughing, playing cards, and creating lasting memories.

Carol Sue Barbour was preceded in death by her parents, Mother Ada (Drew) Barbour and Father Jerold W. Barbour, Sr.; siblings, Sisters Sally Bailey, Hattie (Willie, Sr.) Boston, and Mongolia Barbour; and Brothers Michael D. Barbour (Kathy), Jeroid W. Barbour, Jr., Ronald Barbour, Sr., Clarence Barbour, and Paul Barbour.

She is survived by her daughters, Dr. Marsha (Dr. Lowa) Mwilamwe and Dr. Michelle Fragier; her sister, Beverly (Henry) Williams; granddaughters Taylor Myles, Tyler (Dariel) Henry, and Toryn Myles; grandson, Stephane Mwilambwe; and her great-grandson Dylan Henry; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever cherish her memory.
Carol will be remembered for her honesty, kindness, laughter, generosity, and unwavering love for family and friends. Her legacy lives on in the many lives she touched.
