Obituary
James Ellington, Jr., 75, departed this life on Sunday, May 11, 2025, at his residence. James born on June 12, 1949, to Sabina Spiller and James William Ellington, Sr.
Being one the first to graduate from Southeast High Schools, Butch was a phenomenal man, father, teacher, uncle, brother, and son. In his free time, he enjoyed playing cards, listening to music, playing piano, cooking, guiding others, and setting a wave of his own. He was employed at district 186, where he helped teach and guide disabled youth through their journey in school. He volunteered with the youth at the boys and girls club in the early 2000s. He was loving, big-hearted, open-minded, and he kept good people in his life.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James William Ellington and Sabina Gayton Spiller; sister, Dorothy Dottie Brown; and his brother, Paul Gayton.
He leaves behind: a wife, Mary Jane Ellington; one daughter, Jenika Renee Ellington; brothers, Lawrence Gayton, Ricky (Dorthy) Gayton, David Gayton, Henry Gayton, Andrew Gayton, and Amos Gayton; sisters, Angela Gayton, Cleon, Gayton, Mary Jane Ellington, Martha, Gayton, and Jeannie Ellington Taylor; close friends, Cindy Simmons and Donald Mason; brother and sister-in-law, David and Roberta Stapleton; and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
