Obituary
Jamie Lynn Griggs, 41, of Springfield, Illinois, beloved mother of three and precious friend and family member to many, passed away peacefully on July 7, 2025.
She was born on October 14, 1983, in Springfield, to James H. Griggs, Jr., and Brenda K. Letcher. Even as a child, she was full of life and curiosity. Her family often recalled the time she managed to ease the family car out of the driveway, an early glimpse of the spirited girl they knew and loved.
As she grew into her teen years, Jamie split time between Springfield and Alton, Illinois, attending Alton High School, where she was a member of the cheerleading team for a short time before graduating from Springfield Southeast High School in 2002. It was during these years that Jamie gave birth to her first child, Gabriella Robertson. She later gave birth to two more children: Jade and Justyce Willis. She loved all her children as passionately as she lived.
Throughout her adulthood, while life naturally pulled everyone in different directions, Jamie remained a steady thread in the lives of those she loved. She didn’t just stay in touch, she paid attention. She remembered your stories, your struggles, and your joys. She had a rare gift for making you feel truly seen, heard, and valued. That devotion to connection defined what became her later years, and it’s why so many felt deeply close to her, because with Jamie, you never felt forgotten.
Jamie took on various roles in her professional life, but always gravitated toward work that served others. Her warmth and vibrant spirit touched everyone she worked with, including in her most recent role with the Illinois Department of Transportation, where she will be sincerely missed.
Her passions were many, with music, travel, and spending time with family and friends being some of her favorites, but laughter was her greatest joy. She could rehear an inside joke or rewatch her favorite movie moments endlessly, laughing each time as if it were brand new. And we adored this about her, along with so much more.
Jamie’s absence will be felt at every moment, but her memory lives within us, urging us to live fully, just as she did, until we meet again.
She is survived by her children, Gabriella Robertson, of Alton, Jade Willis, of Springfield, and Justyce Willis, of Springfield; mother, Brenda K. Letcher, of Springfield; father, James H. Griggs, Jr., of Alton; siblings, Tiana Griggs-Anderson, of Alton, Aisha (Royce) Williams of Alton, Jason Griggs of Indiana, Dashia Griggs, of Danville, Illinois, Shanelle (Jarod) Clayberg, of Germantown, Wisconsin, and James (Barb) H. Griggs III, of Springfield; grandfather, James H. Griggs Sr. of Alton; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She is preceded in death by her grandmothers, Nellie Fields and Helen Griggs; grandfather, Roscoe Letcher; and several other deeply cherished family members.
