Obituary

John C. Jones, 75, departed this life on June 22, 2023, surrounded by his loving family at his residence. He was born April 24, 1948, in Springfield, Illinois, the son of Otis and Florida Jones.

He graduated from Feitshans High School in Springfield, Illinois. He was a beloved son, brother, father, uncle, grandfather, and friend to many others.

He served in the United States Army from May 15, 1969 - May 17, 1971. He was an honorably discharged Vietnam Veteran. He retired from Sangamon State University.

He was a member of American Legion Post 809 and held many positions. John loved his family, listening to music, and cooking. He never met a stranger and enjoyed family gatherings.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Otis and Florida Jones; brothers, Otis Jones, Jr., Samuel Jones, Robert Jones, and William (Bill) Jones; and sister, Mary E. Cooper.

He leaves to cherish his memories: children, Pamela Renee Manns of Decatur, IL, Carla Renee Gool of Cordova, TN, and Markis Coleman of Dallas, TX; beloved sister, Joyce Ann (Leroy) Williams of Springfield, IL; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other family members, friends, and his American Legion Post 809 family. He also leaves behind a special friend, Janese Redmond.
