Obituary
Lenworth Alton Smith, affectionately called Lenny, son of the late Eustace and Maud Smith, was born in Kingston, Jamaica, of the West Indies on July 28, 1960.
Lenny received his formal education at Central Branch All Age School. He also attended trade school for mechanical engineering. His father wanted him to follow in his footsteps and encouraged him to switch his major to plumbing, which he mastered. He worked for several years as a contractor for his dad’s company.
He migrated to the USA in 1987, and lived with his family in Springfield, Massachusetts, and worked at Harvest Royal as a meat packer from 1987 to 2003, when he was injured on the job and had to take leave indefinitely. On April 3, 2004, Lenny married his childhood sweetheart, Avis Graham. The union did not produce any children, but Lenny had three sons from a previous relationship.
Lenny then moved with his wife to Springfield, IL, in 2007. There he became a member of Union Baptist Church. He also started working at Maintenance Supply as a floor care specialist for about 13 years. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends. His hobbies included cooking, gardening and playing games on the computer with his wife, Avis.
On Sunday July 13, 2025, he greeted God at Heaven’s gate. He was preceded in death by his father and mother. He leaves to cherish his memories: his loving wife of 21 years, Avis; sons, Khary, Lenworth, Jr., and Krishna; six sisters, Nerisa, Annmarie (Herbert), Aldine (Michael), Debra (Richard), Leonie (Shawn), and Melody; three brothers, Devon(Daydre), Gladstone and Gregory; five grandkids, nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, other relatives, and friends.
