Obituary
Lorna J. Simon, 67, of Springfield, Illinois departed this life Thursday September 21, 2023. Lorna was born November 20, 1955, the daughter of Lawrence and Henrietta Beard Simon in Springfield, IL.
Lorna became a member of Sacred Heart Church at young age, attended there and graduated from Ursuline Academy. She received her Master Degree at Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville. Lorna worked for the Illinois State Comptroller’s Office and later worked for the City of Springfield as the City’s Benefit Division Manager retiring after 23 years.
Lorna belonged to several organizations and kept up with all of them. She belonged to Black Catholic Commission of Springfield Diocese and was just in Maryland in June at the National Convention.
Lorna was a member and former Vice President of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. She joined several of her line sisters in New Orleans last year. Lorna was a member of the Faith Coalition for the Common good in Springfield Chapter.
Lorna is preceded in death by; parents; Lawrence and Henriette Beard and brother; Lawrence Simon.
Lorna is survived by; nephews; Tim Simon, James Mallory, Keith Mallory and nieces; Toni Miller and Kelly Overman, sister-in-law; Pam Simon, uncle; Junie Beard and a host of cousins and friends.
