Mary V. Johnson, 97, departed this life on December 14, 2023, at her home surrounded by her loved ones. She was born on March 30, 1926, in Springfield, Illinois, the daughter of Alberta Ruth Davis Work and Guy John Work, Sr. She was married to Elmer Johnson, Sr., and five children were born. Mrs. Johnson was an assembly line worker at John W. Hobbs for over 20 years. She was a charter member of Greater All Nation Tabernacle under the leadership of Superintendent Pastor Paul W. Davis. She was preceded in death by her parents, Alberta and Guy John Work, Sr.; sisters, Sarah Floyd and Geneva Ruth Martin; brothers, William Henry, Guy, Thomas, Barry, John, and Robert Work; and great-grandson, Master Brock Horton, who is awaiting her arrival in heaven.
She leaves to cherish in loving memories to her children, Elmer Johnson, Jr., Neta Staggs, Robert Johson, Elaine Johnson, and Melvin Johnson; sisters-in-law, Betty and Mary Work; grandchildren, Frederick Horton, Jr., of Maryland, Robert (DeAnn) Horton of Illinois, Christine Medley of Virginia, and LaRue (Shani) Johnson of Texas; great-grandchildren, Kennedy Horton, Imani Horton, Gabriel Hullum, Brionne Horton, Robert Horton, Jr., Isaiah Horton, Frederick Horton, Amaiya Horton, Haley (Corporal Corey) Hawkins-Byrd, Kaylynn Davis, Nala Jones, and Devon Johnson; and great-great-grandchildren, Ayden Davis, Ashton Hawkins-Byrd, Sebastian Hawkins-Byrd, A’mia Horton, and Kyson Horton.
