Obituary
Mercie Sullivan, 95, departed this life on Thursday, September 19, 2024, at Lewis Memorial Christian Village surrounded by loved ones in Springfield, IL. She was born June 26, 1929, in Henderson, TN, the daughter on Tommie Sr. and Georgie Shields. She was the youngest daughter of 13 children.
Mercie was a homemaker for her husband and 10 children. She never worked outside the home. She was a longtime member of Abundant Faith Christian Center. She visited the sick and shut-in neighbors, and was a faithful witness for Christ.
She is preceded in death by her husband John Sullivan Sr., and her sons John Jr., Terry, William (Pete), Ray, and Louis Sr.; daughter Brenda Billops; brothers Tommie Jr., Harvey, Connar, Manual, and Eugene; and sisters Erma, Amanda, Ethel, Lessie, Willie Bee, and Gladys.
Mercie leaves to cherish one brother Marvin Howard Shields; her children Mary, Michael, Joyce and Darryl; a special niece Shirley; a special nephew Reggie; and 23 grandchildren, 62 great-grandchildren, 10 great-great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other family members, and friends.
