Obituary

Nadine Hughes 92, of Springfield, IL  passed away on December 18, 2023. She was born December 30, 1930, in Montgomery Alabama to Joe and Susie (Nash) Hughes. Nadine was a practicing Jehovah’s Witness and attended meetings at the West Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

She retired from the State of Illinois in 1993 after 20 years of service as a Mental Health Technician.

Nadine was known for her generosity to family and friends. As a mother of  7 and a grandmother of 11, Nadine understood how to give the specific love each family member needed. Whether it was a warm meal, a listening ear, or a watchful eye over her grandchildren, Nadine was always there when it mattered most.

As a dedicated follower of Jehovah and matriarch of her family, she consistently demonstrated the qualities we all wish to have-wisdom, loyalty, honesty, and most importantly love.

Leading by example, Nadine showed that strength, hard work, and faith in Jehovah will always provide an abundant life today and life everlasting in the future. Loyal to His teachings and devoted to the studies of his word, Nadine was looking forward to living her real life in the new system.

Nadine was preceded in death by her parents; sisters Idell Johnson, Commearl Wofford, Ruby Randolph, and Emma Hughes; brothers, Climmie Mack Hughes, Mackie Hughes, and Joe Milton Hughes; son, Ronald Hughes; and grandson, Malik Hines.

She leaves to cherish her memory daughters, Sonja Slaughter (William), Toni Glasscoe (Michael), Donna Sneed (Dennis), and Sharon E. Hines (Tyrone); sons, Terry Hughes, and Harold Hughes; grandsons, Carlton Slaughter, and Cobe Slaughter (Kadeen), Myles Sneed, Trayvon Hughes, and Latrell Hughes; granddaughters, Sydney Glasscoe, Shayna Atkinson (Mike), Samantha Echebelem (Sosa), and Maya Hines; great-grandson, Caleb Glasscoe; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
