Obituary
Patricia Ann Patterson, 81, affectionately known as “Aunt Pat” by many, was called to her eternal home to rest on Thursday, December 18, 2025, in Springfield, Illinois.
Patricia was born on January 14, 1944, in Springfield, Illinois, to Earl Robert Douglas and Betty Louise Douglas. She was united in marriage to her husband, Oscar Patterson. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Betty R. Williams; and her four brothers, Earl R. Douglas Jr., Ronald L. Douglas, Donald L. Douglas, and Fred H. Douglas.
Pat was raised alongside her siblings in an environment rooted in love, strong faith, stability, and a solid family foundation. She accepted Christ early in life and faithfully lived out her Christian calling. She was a devoted member of Capital City Church of God and, when able, served faithfully in the kitchen, as an usher, and most joyfully in the children’s ministries.
A hardworking woman, Pat held positions at St. John’s Hospital and District 186, served as a home childcare provider, and co-owned multiple businesses with her husband, Oscar. Pat had a strong work ethic and she
remained active in her community during her earlier years. She loved to laugh and spend time with family and friends, and she enjoyed playing softball.
Pat lived her entire, full life in Springfield, where many knew her not just as a neighbor, but as family or friend. She leaves behind countless stories, cherished memories, and moments of joy. Her presence enriched the lives of many, and she will be remembered fondly by all who loved her.
In addition to her husband, Oscar Patterson, she is survived by: her son, Matthew P. Patterson; stepchildren, Vicki Patterson, Beverly Patterson, Terri White (Cornelious), Oscar Patterson III, Derek Patterson, and James Patterson; her brother, Rickey (Sandra) Douglas Sr. of Springfield, IL; sisters, Linda (Roy I. Sr.) Douglas-Williams of Springfield, IL, and Kelly Douglas of Powder Springs, GA; along with grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and a host of “Aunt Pat’s babies” whom she lovingly helped raise and guide.
It is said that “it takes a village to raise a child,” and many were blessed to have Pat as part of their village. She will be deeply missed by all whose lives she touched.
