Obituary

Philip Lee Mitchell-Trumbo was born on October 1, 1988, to Bridgette Trumbo and Rico Mitchell.

Phil, or “Big Phil” as he was affectionately known, brought joy to the lives of everyone he met. Whether it be a funny joke, meme, a simple conversation, or even a listening ear… Phil always had what you needed to brighten your day! He loved many different sports and even played football and track while attending Lanphier High School. Philip loved wrestling! He enjoyed going to many main events with his brothers and friends. Phil also loved music and would travel from city to city to go to concerts and loved to try new restaurants along the way! Any menu mentioning cheese, chicken, or bacon might get a visit! But what Phil loved most of all was his family and close friends, especially all of his nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews! He never missed any birthdays or events they participated in and boy did they all love their “Uncle Phil!”

Philip graduated from LHS in 2007, then attended Greenville college, where he gained a whole new set of family and friends. Phil worked as a DSP for many years caring for individuals with disabilities, most recently at IAG where he worked with disabled children until his health no longer allowed him to. He was loved by the individuals he serviced, as well as the co-workers and families he worked with.

Phil made his transition into eternal rest on September 1, 2023, at Memorial Medical Center. He was welcomed with open arms into eternity by his grandfather, Walfred L. Trumbo, Jr., and his grandmother, Johnie Mae Mitchell. His aunt, Glori D. Simpson, was there to greet him as well!

His loving memory will be forever kept in the hearts and minds of: his mother, Bridgette Trumbo of St. Paul, MN; father, Rico Mitchell of Springfield, IL; grandfather, Richard “Junior” Mitchell; grandmother, Clementine McPike; uncles, Bobby Webb and family, and Landon Trumbo; aunts, Adlene Madden, Janine Bradley, and Joann Muhammad; brothers, Isaiah Trumbo, Elijah Trumbo, Marcus A. Criss, and Lawrence Mason; sisters, Tara Hickman, Terika Mitchell, and Morgan Trumbo; bonus sister, Jenna Hickman; nephews, Jerrell Perry, Joshua Hickman, Quincy Hawkins, and Marcus Criss, Jr.; nieces, Keiana Goodall, Jordanne Hickman, Jasmine Trent, and Raelyn and Savannah Criss; several great-nieces and nephews; close cousins, Kendra and Darrin Simpson, and Alfred Bradley; along with many other cousins, current and former coworkers, clients, and dear friends.
