Obituary

Richard Eugene Haley Jr. departed this life on April 7, 2024, at his home. He was born October 4, 1976, in Springfield, Illinois, the son of Sandra K (Robinson-Haley) Shannon and Richard Eugene Haley Sr. (Moo Moo). Richard previously worked at NUDOS, and the Department of Rehabilitation as a care professional. He was also a great barber and always made sure that his hair and the hair of his family and friends were right and tight. His dream was to obtain his barber’s license and cut the hair of senior citizens in nursing facilities. Richard loved boxing and playing on the Lanphier High School basketball team. He also loved skating, playing checkers, and Monopoly where he seemed to own all the properties with his family and friends. Richard gave his life to Christ as a child growing up at St. Paul A.M.E. Church. He attended Table of Life Ministries with his mother and assisted her in her evangelical work with her Pathway to Healing Prison Ministry, where they feed the homeless. He loved working with his brothers and sister in their endeavors from cooking, making t-shirts, and writing songs. He also loved to draw. He was preceded in death by his father, Richard E. Haley Sr, who was affectionally called Moo Moo by his friends and family, his paternal grandparents, James Sr. & Christine Haley, and maternal grandmother, Louise Robinson Terry, brother; Philip Johnson-Haley and niece; Thereatha Miracle Blessing Caruthers.
He leaves to cherish memories his sons, Devin (Lexus) Stratton-Haley of Springfield, IL, Je’veon Haley of Springfield, IL, Je’von Haley of Springfield, IL, Richard E. Haley, III, and his daughter Jade’ Haley of Springfield, IL. He also leaves to cherish his passing his mother, Evangelist Sandra Shannon of Wichita, KS, brothers; Adrian (Wendie) Haley, Springfield, IL, Rodney (Amanda) Haley, Wichita, KS, Richard E Haley II, Milan Johnson of Capecoral, FL, Richard Haley III, Tim Haley  and James Haley all of Decatur, IL, his sisters Eboni Haley (Steve) of Indiana, Atlanta Haley of Springfield, IL, one granddaughter Veda Stratton-Haley and one blessing on the way. He will be greatly missed by special aunt Karen Terry, Uncle Stevie Terry, and many loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
