Obituary
Shanel Rene Womack 39, departed this earthly life on Friday November 17, 2023 at Springfield Memorial Hospital. Shanel was born Tuesday July 24, 1984, the daughter of Nicki Renfro of Springfield, IL and Dennis Womack of Peoria, IL.
She was a lifelong member of Grace United Methodist Church and attended Sunday school, youth choir and was an acolyte.
She was affectionately called “Nel Nel” or “Nellie” by those who loved her.
She worked for many years at the State of Illinois and her most recent job was at HSHS St. John’s Hospital as a Billing Coding Clerk.
Her most important job was being a dutiful mother to her daughter Jariah.
She was gentle, kind and very caring. She put other’s needs above her own and loved her family throughout her long-fought battle.
Shanel tried to make others’ day better. Her smile was a bright light for all that knew her.
She is preceded in death by; brother; Jared Womack (2003), grandparents; June Renfro, Wardella and William Womack, uncles; Gerald “Jerry” Renfro and Nicholas Hernandez Renfro.
She leaves to cherish her memory; daughter; Jariah Ariel Gordon, Mother; Nicki Renfro of Springfield, IL, father; Dennis Womack of Peoria, IL, siblings; Joseph Collins Jr. and sister-in-love; Shamera Poole of Springfield, IL, Dr. Jordan Michael Collins of Charlotte, North Carolina, Denisha Temple of St. Louis, MO, Denarra Womack and Dennis Womack II of Peoria, IL, grandparents; Elmer and Linda Renfro of Springfield, IL, nieces; June Collins and Dakota Temple, countless aunts and uncles. Godparents; Jennifer Childress, Homer Coleman, Bernadetta Thompson.
