Obituary

Shevita Jean Jackson, 65 departed this life on Friday, May 3, 2024, at her residence in Springfield, IL.  She was born January 15, 1959, in Greenwood, MS to Clinton Massey and Flora Mae Massey.  She confessed her faith in God at an early age joining Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in Murphysboro, IL.
Shevita was educated in the Murphysboro, IL school district where she graduated from Murphysboro Township High School in 1978.
 
Shevita was married to Louis Jackson.  Shortly after marriage Louis enlisted in the United States Navy and began his Navy career in Newport News, VA where Shevita resided for over 35 years.  To that union two children were born. 
 
Shevita had a passion for cooking which left a legacy of many memories of love and laughter at family gatherings.  She also enjoyed playing bingo, listening to music, traveling and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
 
Shevita spent her career in the health care industry where she made a lasting impression with her caring and infectious attitude.  At the time of her passing she was employed for the State of VA at Eastern State Hospital in Williamsburg, VA.
 
Shevita was preceded in death by her husband, Louis Jackson; her daughter, Angel Jackson; her Father, Clinton Massey Sr.; Brother, Darryl Massey and sister, Jackie Massey.
 
Shevita leaves to cherish precious memories, a son, Chadrick J. Jackson, a daughter, Chiva Jackson, both currently residing in Springfield, IL. She is also survived by her devoted and loving mother, Flora Massey of Springfield, IL.  Her sisters: Valorie (Paul) Robinson, Betty Jamison, Sondra (Eddie) Hayes and Jennifer Massey-Kirkwood all of Springfield, IL and Debora (Zegary) Scott of Indianapolis, IN.  Her brothers:  Clinton Massey, Jr. and Gregory Massey, both of Springfield, IL; 13 Grandchildren; 2 Uncles, Norman (Shirley) Massey of Wichita, KS and James (Shirley) Massey of Marietta, GA.  Aunt: Sarah Williams of Denver, CO; A sister-in-law, Viola Jackson and three brothers in law, Rodger Jackson, David Jackson and Charles Jackson all of Marion, IL.  A host of cousins, nieces and nephews. Special friends:  Carolyn Alexander, Donna Parker, LaDonna Jones, Latanya Jenkins, Towanna Kingsberry and Angie Riley.
 
A special thanks to her church family at First Baptist Denbigh and friends of Newport News, VA.
