Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Wajeedah Abdul-Rahim, a beloved matriarch, community advocate, and guiding light, who departed this life on November 28, 2024, at the age of 92.
Wajeedah Abdul-Rahim was born on September 22, 1932, in St. Louis Missouri to Daniel Webster Rice, and Hattie Velma Shedd(Rice). She attended St. Elizabeth Grammer School and graduated from Vashon High School. She worked for and retired from The City of Springfield.
Wajeedah was a force to be reckoned with. When she walked into a room her energy and communing presence were undeniable, leaving a lasting impression on everyone around her. She was not perfect in her delivery or her words, but her love was unwavering and her honest refreshing tough, unfiltered love was her way, and if you needed her, she showed up with guns blazing, and ready to give it to you straight. You never had to wonder where you stood with Wajeedah she made it crystal clear, as her words always came from a place of truth and care.
She found joy in the simplest pleasures. Whether it was listening to music, a conversion over the phone, a house full of laughs with her grandchildren while listening to numerous stories of our family history that was met with knowledge and wisdom, and the lively energy that came along with it.
Wajeedah was preceded in death by (Papa and Mama Rice) father, Daniel Webster Rice, mother, Hattie Velma Shedd (Rice), (7 brothers) Daniel Webster Rice, Jessie Paul Rice, John Edward Rice, Paul Lawrence Rice, Donald Rice, Doug Martin, and Raymond Joseph(Betty)Rice, (sister) Shirley Barnes, 3 sons, Michael Tyron Rice, Craig Anthony Smith (Tony) and Waleed Umar Abdul-Rahim, (grandchildren) Michael Du’Juan Smith, Raymond Rice Cody, (great grandchild) Kaneisha Da-chel, (nephew Tank) Aaron Foster, (niece Fat-Cat) Leslie Chaney.
She leaves an honorable legacy to her children; Phyllis Alcorn (Donny), Debra Gunn, Veronica Frazier (Willie), Theodore Laster, Wali Omar Abdul-Rahim and Khy Wajeedah Abdul-Rahim, and a sister in-law Betty Rice (Paul). She leaves to cherish 14 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, 32 great-great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other family members and friends.
Special Honors: Taj Rahim-Billups (granddaughter) Antoine Gunn Sr. (great grandson) Joel Rice (Pookie nephew), Paul Rice ll (Scooby nephew), Jerri Poston Rice (Doo Doo niece).
